"Star Wars Galaxies" will soon be kaput

(CBS) LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment announced on Friday that "Star Wars Galaxies," the online role-playing multiplayer, is ending. The scheduled date that its virtual world, based on the George Lucas' Star Wars universe, will cease to exist is .

The news came via a letter to players from LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment published in several places, including the "Star Wars Galaxies" forums at Sony and Kotaku(swg credits).

According to the letter, the next major action over the game's shuttering will take place , when "No new or reactivated accounts [are] accepted after this date(star war galaxies credits)."

Kotaku reports the decision to end "Star Wars Galaxies" was a business decision, quoting Sony Online Entertainment's CEO, John Smedley. A new game, "Star Wars: The Old Republic," will likely arrive within a year, reports Kotaku.You can buy swg credits.
